✔ Do you feel that you have wonderful products and services that promote Catholicism?
✔Are you eager to share your Catholic products to a wider audience?
I'm here to tell you if you are not already investing in Pinterest, it’s totally, completely, one hundred per cent time to expand your business marketing with Pinterest.
And if you already have a Pinterest presence and it’s doing ABSOLUTELY NOTHING for you – it’s time to change that by deep diving into what makes Pinterest work amazing for some and oh hum, not so much for others.
With Pinterest you can get your products out in front of hundreds (in some cases millions) of potential customers. But if you don’t know what you are doing it can be like flying a kite – lots of people may see your kite diving and dancing in the air as they walk by . . . but how many just keep walking by?
You see for a lot of people using Social Media even if they see something that catches their eye they don’t do anything about it.
That can easily be the same way with Pinterest. A pin even if it’s beautifully designed may provide no more than a passing flicker of interest before the viewer moves on to something else.
To make money . . . Your pins need to be more than pretty . . . your pins need to have a purpose, a plan, a strategy that gets people to see them, get excited about them and most importantly click through to your website.
Pinterest is an amazing platform for selling . . . if . . . you do a few things correctly and . . . if . . . you do them consistently.
In my research on companies using Pinterest I found that most Catholic businesses and organizations are not using the platform to bring in new customers even though hundreds of thousands of Catholics use it every day.
Pinterest is not for:
or lean back recreation time as with Facebook . . .
BUT for finding people who want to buy . . .
Pinterest is leading all other Social Media sites in ROI marketing
Have you ever driven by a restaurant noting the fully packed parking lot and line of people standing in line at the door to get in and thought to yourself, "Hmmm, that might be a good place to try?"
I invite you to take a look at some of the big time businesses who are creating that same kind of popular draw on Pinterest.
Here are just a few of the major secular brands who are on Pinterest. I don’t have inside statistics on how well they are doing but I know that their marketing departments would not be using them year after year if they were not seeing definite positive ROI. A number of these brands have over ten million viewers each month.
Albertsons (10m + monthly viewers)
Amazon (10m + monthly viewers)
Betty Crocker (10m + monthly viewers
DIY Network (10m + monthly viewers)
Etsy (10m + monthly viewers)
Forever 21 (5.2m + monthly viewers)
Lowe’s (10m + monthly viewers)
Martha Stewart (10m + monthly viewers)
Microsoft in Education (1.3m + monthly viewers)
Nordstrom (10m + monthly viewers)
Penguin Random House (10m + monthly viewers)
Real Simple (10m + monthly viewers)
Reese’s (10m + monthly viewers)
Safeway (2.9m + monthly viewers)
Target (10m + monthly viewers)
Walgreens (10m + monthly viewers)
Whole Foods (10m + monthly viewers)
Mashable (10m + monthly viewers)
IKEA (10m + monthly viewers)
AND what about Publishing?
Independent Publishers IPG says they have been using Pinterest since 2012 and it’s their third biggest driver of traffic to their website behind only organic google searches and direct typing of their URL.
Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Books
Kensington Publishing Corp
Little, Brown and Company
Penguin Random House
Simon & Schuster
While I did find a number of Catholic publishers on Pinterest most of them were not actively using this platform to get the most advantage of what Pinterest could do for them.
For instance while one major publisher had the most monthly viewers of the Catholic publishers I reviewed they did not seem to have “rich pins” enabled which would tell viewers the price and availability of the books they have made into pins.
Kristie Hill writing for Simple Pins Media stated that “Rich Pins is one of the best things you can do to improve the success of your campaigns on the platform.”
And another Catholic publisher while it has rich pins enabled, their pins are mixed on a board with other books by other publishers.
One key ingredient to building brand awareness is to have the first three to five boards directly focus on what your company or organization offers then create other boards where you can repin other content if you feel it will add to the usefulness of your audience.

1. Pinterest is all about discovery. You can create pins that help people explore their faith, share their faith and love their faith.
2. Pinterest is a visual search engine that promotes visual shopping of products and ideas. Looking for a Rosary? A new Bible? A First Communion outfit?
3. Over 288 million people (90% of monthly Pinterest users) use Pinterest to make buying decisions why not have your Catholic products be featured as well?
4. 55% of Pinterest users are looking specifically for products and yes that includes Catholic gifts, books and apparel.
5. Pinterest is keyword driven and if you pin strategically you can gain first page ranking for your targeted keyword, keyword phrase on Google faster than any other platform.
6. Use relevant keywords on Pinterest to target your audience. Download my free 700 Catholic Keywords to get started.
7. You can add one or two hashtags with every pin to build brand and expand reach.
8. 83% of Pinterest weekly users have purchased something through the platform.
9. Pinterest users can repin what they like to their own boards to buy later. Similar to a Wedding Registry only they can use it for any topic they want.
10. Pinterest makes it easy to share. Recipes, DIY, Birthday ideas and Catholic gifts and products.
11. Pinterest makes it easy to plan almost anything that can be imagined and some of those Catholic planning boards could easily contain some of your pins. For instance a search on Pinterest for “RCIA” reveals eleven categories of RCIA pins of which RCIA Process, RCIA Classes and RCIA Celebration are just a few.
12. Pinterest makes collaborating on projects easy with group boards. Planning a First Communion, family reunion, a wedding, a business project? You can keep the board secret open only to pinners you select.
13. 81% of all brick and mortar purchases are digital driven meaning that shoppers do online research before committing to a purchase. Many start with the inspiration and DIY ideas they have seen on Pinterest before going on to shop locally.
14. A Pinterest business account (free) gives extensive analytics to monitor your pins for greatest leverage.
15. The ROI on Pinterest promoted pins is lower than other platforms.
16. A promoted pin continues to expand its reach even after the promotion is over as the pins continue to get re-pinned. For instance a pin that gets pinned to a hundred different boards through a promotion will easily get repinned by visitors from those hundred boards to their own boards and the reach of your pin just keeps multiplying.
17. The average half life for a pin reaches its peak at three months and continues to build engagement over time with repins.
18. Pinterest is a long term win as a pin can still send traffic to your website months and even years after being pinned.
19. Pinterest users continue to use the platform longer than Twitter. Many twitter users stop using the platform after one or two years but statistics show that Pinterest users just keep on adding pins year after year.
20. Popular pins show up at the top of searches making it worth while to spend a little extra time to create great pins.
21. You can create multiple pins from one piece of content to expand reach. Pin one of the pins a week to show up as new for SEO.
22. You can categorize your boards to help visitors find content quickly. The more organized your Pinterest page is the more it encourages visitors to find what they want and follow your boards for return visits.
23. Group boards expand the reach of your pins for free. They are not as effective for driving traffic as a couple of years ago but still drive work if used selectively.
24. There is less competition on Pinterest even though big brands like Walgreens, Target and Starbucks are just some of the popular brands using it. Pinterest business states that “83% of weekly US Pinners have made a purchase based on Pins from brands” though 97 % of Pinterest searches are unbranded.
25. 51% of women are exposed to NEW brands on Pinterest meaning you can show up on the same search results as a well-known brand.
26. There is no text limit on pins although as a visual search engine you want to make your images and video show more than tell the story.
Consistent Pinning is the key to Pinterest Success
Consistent pinning is the key to visibility, growth and popularity. Think of your Pinterest account as a garden that will produce at harvest time but only if it is properly taken care of each and every day.
A Pinterest account that is carefully nurtured at a minimum of 3-5 days a week for a period of a full growing season of three to six months will produce abundantly at the end of that period while one that receives hit and miss attention will few visits and almost no return visits.
The hardest part for most businesses to understand with Pinterest is that it needs some attention every day. It doesn’t have to be a lot but fifteen minutes a day will always out perform a weekly bout of intermittent fervor.
Pin with Pizazz
Next what you pin is as important as how much you pin. Here you should follow three points to make your pins work effectively.
1. The pins should provide value to your target market.
2. Each pin should be aesthetically attractive and compelling to stand out from other pins.
3. Each pin should reflect a consistent image of your business by using branding colors, font and voice.
Pinterest SEO Explosion!
The average Pinterest user is not aware that Pinterest is not a social media platform but rather a visual and keyword search engine. As a search engine it is important to combine both a visual and text presentation to get the greatest return for your pins.
Let’s say you want to promote an online Bible study program. You could create a pin that depicts someone reading their Bible while wearing a pair of earbuds. If that was all you did the pin would have little effect.
Okay, if the image of the Bible was prominent enough it might be picked up visually but if you add:
NOW you have dramatically increased the chances of your pin being found by someone wanting just what you are offering and being found through both visual and keyword search.
With a powerful Pinterest presence you can expect steady, consistent growth with your account which in turn will create:
Increase your Google Ranking
and most importantly draw more Visits to your Website.
As your account increases in reliability, authority and value it will become easier and easier to convert strangers to friends and friends to new clients and customers.
But do not expect Pinterest to be a quick, over night process. It's not something that you can do over the weekend and expect to start reaping results on Monday.
In fact I will be honest here, if you are not open to committing to a more than basic Pinterest presence you will be better placing your money in other directions.
If you need to have overnight results than Pinterest will not work for you. It doesn't matter how much money you might throw into paid promotions, video pins, animated pins, contests and other efforts you need to give your pins time to germinate, grow and develop before getting dramatic results.
So how do you started?
When Pinterest first entered the scene in 2010 rapid growth was possible simply by opening an account and repining a ton of other people’s content. It hardly mattered what you pinned, how you created the pins and what time you threw them into the system.
THAT IS NO LONGER THE CASE.
Today Pinterest rewards properly developed and maintained Pinterest accounts.
Boards that accurately reflect the business they are representing
Content that is unique, fresh and provides intrinsic value.
Steady consistent pinning over time
The days of spasmodic Pinterest pinning is still fine for personal accounts but business accounts need strategical planning with consistent daily pinning.
Here is my strong recommendation
If you want to see what Pinterest can do for your business I suggest you start with a complete - done for you - Pinterest Set Up.
I laughingly call it the: Just Get Me Pointed in the Right Direction Module. It is a grand way to have the foundation for your account set up correctly.
It starts with identifying your goals, branding and the content you want promoted. It’s vitally important for your Pinterest success that you are clear on the results you want and the steps needed to be in place to get there.
I will send you a simple questionnaire that you can fill out either online or in a Word document.
The questionaire consists of ten marketing questions that may take fifteen minutes to an hour to complete BUT it will jumpstart your Pinterest strategy and you will be further ahead in my opinion by at least 99.5 per cent of all other Pinterest users.
In fact this questionnaire alone will put you in the driver’s seat for taking control of your Pinterest account and making it successful if you follow up with my suggested action steps afterwards.
Once the questions are done to the best of your ability we can schedule a phone strategy follow up session to expand your goals, branding and content. Together we will get absolutely clear on your objectives and the results you can expect as you move forward.
I know your business or organization is different and unique and I will work with you in making sure you stand out with a clear, professional presence while still maintaining your Catholic Faith First, Mission First Identity .
I will be looking to target the most important factors that make your business stand out from the crowd. Finding that one pearl or pearls can make a huge difference in how you move forward.
Once the behind the scenes work is done it will be time for me to get to work on your account.
I want your business to succeed on Pinterest as much as you do . . . maybe even more . . . BECAUSE if you are not happy with your results it will certainly not be good for my business so I want us both to be over the top, excited with your Pinterest Outcome.
So with that selfish reason aside I want you to know that I only take on one Pinterest Set-Up Client a week so that I have the time to implement full creative and strategical planning and implementation for your success.
Once the roadmap is established the first definite ACTION STEP will be to set up your business Pinterest account properly (if you have not already done this) so that you can take full advantage of all the “free” tools and analytics to guide your future pinning decisions.
Let me start off by saying that keeping up with your Pinterest Analytics is what makes the difference between a happy-go-lucky Pinterest Pinner and a Savvy “Profit Focused” Pinterest Pinner.
Analytics will tell you what your best guess and your gut reaction will never do. Using analytics properly will help you to quickly sort out the wheat from the chaff so that you can create future pins that increase the chances of having greater popularity and getting greater results.
Analytics will guide you to the best hours to pin for your particular offering as well as the best colors, the best font, the best wording and much more. If you want Pinterest to help your business you need to treat it with the full respect and attention you would give to the marketing systems you already employ.
The first five boards of your account are THE MOST IMPORTANT.
This is the Prime Real Estate for your Pinterest Presence and you want to make sure they stand out and provide the best value for your visitors.
These boards should not be repins . . . they need to be pins that originate from content on your website. That said starting out you may not be able to do this as it takes time to create content, pins, etc. but if you know this is what to aim for you can work to make this happen as quickly as possible.
Each board should have a complete description of what the board is about. This is where your keywords and your pinning strategy if done correctly will connect with search engines.
The Pinterest set-up plan will get this done for you so that you can rest assured you are starting out correctly.
Shhhh . . . There are a few trade secrets for setting up your boards to encourage pinners to stay longer and visit again and again. Once you understand how to implement these you can use them over and over again with every new board you create.
The first five boards that I create for you will have full SEO descriptions with clear and consise copywriting that includes your main keywords, theme follow through with a simple call to action that encourages clicks to your website.
Finally I will personally create five unique pins for each of your five boards, a total of fifty in all. These will not be template pins spewed out from Canva or other quick and easy fixes but will be graphically designed using Photoshop and my best graphic techniques.
Canva pins and other template pins used to work like magic until everyone started to use those same templates over and over. Once the search engines caught on to copycat pin designs they assigned less value to those pins as not being “unique” and a hit on your ranking is not worth forgoing the extra time and care to be completely original.
As a final note your Pinterest Set-Up puts in place for you the perfect foundation for Pinterest success and is a required first step if you should choose to continue with the Full Scale Expert Business Track.
If your business is already taking up a full measure of your time, focus and energy I suggest you consider my Catholic focused - professional Pinterest Management Service.
Pinterest continues to be a fast growing platform for marketers and there are many Pinterest managers who are experts in setting up Pinterest accounts for general audiences BUT there is a difference in promoting Catholic products and services to a Catholic audience.
How you present, offer and write a product description for a beautiful First Communion outfit is dramatically different than secular copywriting.
Most Catholics do not want to be preached at, lectured or guilt tripped into buying but they do appreciate written content that is faith focused and inspirational.
Being able to relate to Catholic traditions in composing pin descriptions is not something that every Pinterest Manager can do well.
Yes, there are Pinterest managers who are Catholic but as I write this I have not found many that concentrate solely on Pinterest for Catholics. Though I do think Gessica at Catholic Mom Vibes is pretty darn close!
I have been connecting with Catholic audiences since 1998 when I was in the monastery and created Franciscan Ecards (distributing over several million ecards) and published Catholic books (several of which became Catholic best sellers). I resonate with Catholics who are ordinary people with an inner core of faith, respect for the Pope, the teachings of the Church and the call to serve God and one another whatever their station in life may be.
I believe all Catholics are called to be mission driven and in that respect although this is indeed a business for me I treat it also as a calling to give and share what I can do to further Catholic outreach most effectively.
Pinterest is not the answer for every Catholic business . . . but I strongly believe it can be a great help for most and I would be pleased to help you get over the top results using it.
These are pretty big statements and I don’t make them lightly but I strongly believe that they will be true for Your Business when you put the wheels of Pinterest Marketing into play.
The program lasts six months BECAUSE the miracle transformation for your product sales is “NOT” a quick fix, over-night wonder but is built with a carefully, structured slow start content enriching process that day by day grows and intensifies into a solid Platform for Increased Exposure and Traffic to your Website.
After six months even without doing another thing your Pinterest Site will continue to generate revenue and exposure for years.
Here’s how this amazing system works,
This first month is going to be the MOST challenging for you – because while all the important ground work is being done it may seem like NOTHING is happening.
It’s like planting a tiny seed in the soil, pouring a little water on it and checking every day to see if the tiny seedling has broken through the surface. It’s like nothing is happening.
If you’re like me you will be tempted to poke around in the soil a bit just to see if the thing has even sprouted! Where is it?
I want to assure you that a LOT is being done behind the scenes during this first month.
BRANDING Groundwork that resonates with your business image and connects with your target audience is vitally the most powerful first step that needs to be done.
Your first month includes a 60 minute branding strategy session with me via Zoom, Phone or Skype in which we dig in, root out the best points and get deep clarity on the IMAGE you most desire to achieve.
Branding for a managed account means that I know:
Your Mission Statement this helps me to stay true to the values you want to share with your Catholic audience.
Your Brand colors the top two are the most important but it’s nice to include a few sub colors for added interest in small amounts.
Your Brand Font and sub font in most cases we will stick with just three: Serif font, Sans Serif font and a Script or Handwritten font.
The TONE of voice you want to put forth
CALL TO ACTION it’s important that every pin that originates from your website has a CTA – it helps generate that final, extra push to encourage website visits, sign-ups and of course sales!
AND A VERY SPECIAL OFFER
A lot of Pinterest managers will not help you with actual website backbone work such as getting into the CSS, HTML and general coding to get your account set-up properly for Pinterest – BUT I LOVE WORKING WITH WEBSITES and if you do not have a general website manager I will be more than happy to help you with this.
I have been designing websites from the ground up since 1998 when it was all hand coding – and though now I work almost exclusively with Wordpress I can probably work with any basic set up needs for you.
What you will want in place is:
Rich Pins Enabled for your products, blog or recipe site.
Wordpress Pinterest plugins that will amplify what can be done with your pins to get the best results
I offer content creation for business accounts if needed. As a professionally trained copywriter with AWAI, Aspen School of Copywriting, and personal work with other copywriting coaches I am constantly learning and improving my copywriting techniques. (This sales letter for my own services by the way is a good example.
Landing Pages Auto Responders Product descriptions Blogging
* This is an added expense and is only available for Pinterest Management accounts.
** One piece of content can be leveraged for multiple pins, Facebook, Instagram and Twitter sharing for greater exposure.
Creating Original Pin Brand Templates
Phase One is creating brand Pin templates that grab interest, stand out from the crowd and encourage repining.
These templates are exclusively designed for your business and will NOT be used for any other account.
And I want to tell you right off the top – it doesn’t always come out WOW! on the first try. In many cases I may create ten or more brand Pin ideas before I hit on the one that says YES!
This first month is all about exploring Deep Inner Space to find what WORKS best for your business.
It’s important that you allow for testing of pin results in this first month. Every pin can and will add value to your board but after a month and I have posted fifty new pins - ANALYTICS will tell us the ones that are getting the most impressions, repins and the most visits to your website (don’t expect a ton this first month).
Phase Two is about strategically increasing the content on your Pinterest Page.
You see it’s important that your page has enough pins to look viable, that pinners can see you take your business outreach on Pinterest seriously and that you are committed to providing ongoing content.
BUT . . .
Consistent daily pinning will OUTPERFORM a spasmodic dump load of pins once a week or twice a month.
In fact pinning too much in one day can get your site marked as Spam and be shut down!
Pinterest is constantly changing their algorithms for Content Creators. What worked a few years ago or even a few months ago can all of a sudden be a TABOO Practice for going ahead.
Staying current with latest practices is vital for Pinterest Marketing Success.
Build your Pinterest Platform slowly for Maximum Results.
Increase the number of Pins on your site Pin in a daily consistent manner with the best suggested practice of five or fewer pins a day.
Create Pins that Convert!
Pins that CONNECT with your Target Audience
Pins that have some “POW” power!
Pins that are aesthetically designed to encourage pinners to Stop, Look and Click thru to your website.
Pins that show pinners you have what they are looking for
And Definitely your PINS must deliver what you promise.
All those factors wrapped up in a consistent pinning strategy will produce results.
First I Concentrate solely with Catholic Pinners This is why I niche JUST for the Catholic market. Because my audience is strictly faith focused, Catholic in tradition and practice when I find the sweet spot(s) that works best for Catholics I am able to start out the gate ahead of most other general Pinterest Managers.
I don’t have to scramble to find the right tone of voice, keywords, images and other visual elements to make an emotional connection.
I don’t have to tread lightly around subjects that a more secular audience may have difficulty understanding. I can speak freely about Marian devotion, Saints and the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass knowing that these are topics that are basic for practicing Catholics.
One of the free gifts I offer in my Catholic business is a download of 700 Catholic keywords that I have found to rate high with Catholic pinners. This is extensive background work I have already done and can put into use immediately in working with your account.
I focus on WHAT Catholics are using for Search and Discovery
Unlike Facebook and Instagram in which users visit several times a day to connect, have fun and waste some free time – Pinterest users are primarily focused on Search and Discovery.
They are on a mission to fulfil a need – to find a product – to learn how to do something.
They use Pinterest to find a recipe, plan an event or expand their knowledge of a given subject.
PINTEREST IS the BEST CLICK THRU MARKETING PLATFORM for many businesses because:
When a pinner finds something they like . . .
They CLICK through and buy it!
Or they CLICK through to find out more Information
Or they CLICK through to sign up for your Newsletter
AND they will even CLICK thru to make a DONATION to support a worthy cause.
It’s this mindset to Seek and Find that makes this such an amazing platform for Catholic businesses that offer valuable content, products and information.
Phase Three is where all best practices, content building and SEO work is pulled together and the amazing results begin to produce fruit.
Phase Three is where the action starts happening!
It’s the Power Phase where you will start getting SUPER excited about seeing definite results and feel justified for all the investment that has gone into your Pinterest Presence.
At this point in time one can often make at least one dollar for every dollar invested with a Pinterest Promotion . . . if the promotion is done correctly.
But Please Note: The time period for entering into Phase Three will vary for each business depending on how stabilized your account is upon starting.
To start Paid Promotions a few very necessary steps need to be established before you invest a single dollar.
IF YOU WANT PRODUCT SALES . . .INCREASED BRAND IMAGE . . . OR MAILING LIST GROWTH
Promoting a ho-hum pin is wasting money.
Promoting a pin that does not click thru to amazing content is wasting money.
Promoting a pin that does not have a good landing page, product description or great offer is a waste of money.
Promoting a pin for a sales offer less than $20 is usually not a viable solution.
I want YOU to have:
